چکیده
Many consumers are transitioning away from single-use plastic products and turning to reusable alternatives. Oftentimes, this change is being made with the assumption that these alternatives have fewer environmental impacts; however, frequently more environmentally intensive materials use phase impacts. This study used LCA examine GWP, water consumption, primary nonrenewable energy associated for kitchenware determined payback periods. The impacts each alternative calculated on functional units of 1 use, year (5 uses/week), 5 years uses/week). Payback periods defined as number times a consumer must reuse an in order impact per be equivalent product. research explored sensitivity results different washing behaviors, well local conditions such overall transportation distances carbon intensity electricity grids. Product types studied included straws (4 reusable, 2 single-use), sandwich storage (2 3 coffee cups (3 forks (1 single-use, reusable). The financial and environmental costs of reusable and single-use plastic anaesthetic drug trays.
We modelled the financial and environmental costs of two commonly used anaesthetic plastic drug trays. We proposed that, compared with single-use trays, reusable trays are less expensive, consume less water and produce less carbon dioxide, and that routinely adding cotton and paper increases financial and environmental costs. We used life cycle assessment to model the financial and environmenta...

It is estimated that 2.5–10 bn disposable coffee cups are used every year in the U.K. Most of these cups end up in landfill or as litter, as the majority of poly-coated paper cups are not recyclable or not recycled. Here, we report on a field experiment that was conducted at twelve university and business sites to examine whether the use of reusable cups can be promoted through easily implement...

BACKGROUND Plastic single-use laryngoscope blades are inexpensive and carry a lower risk of infection compared with metal reusable blades, but their efficiency during rapid sequence induction remains a matter of debate. The authors therefore compared plastic and metal blades during rapid sequence induction in a prospective randomized trial. METHODS Two hundred eighty-four adult patients under...
متن کاملRequiem for reuse of single-use and reusable devices?
To the Editor: Dissemination of timely data to a hospital community can be a daunting task. Healthcare workers working various schedules across three shifts per day, 7 days per week; large numbers of part-time and outside agency staff; lack of mailboxes; and inability to schedule regular meetings create a challenge to providing up-to-date information. It is especially difficult in the operating...
